Chevrolet Repair: No Brakes, chevy blazer, fluid leaks

Question
I have a 1998 chevy blazer V6 with 4WAL and around 140,000 miles. On friday, I noticed the brake pedal moved to the floor with little resistance. It had done this a few weeks back then went back to normal. Yesterday, upon starting the car, the emergency parking brake stayed on after all the other signal lights went out. I tried pumping the brake pedal and there was no resistance at all. I opened the hood and the brake fluid was within normal levels. Any idea what is causing this? And roughly how expensive it is to fix? Thanks.

Answer
Hey Mike.

Sounds to me that you either have a bad master cylinder that will not create adequate brake pressure.  I would take a close look underneath the vehicle and make sure there is no brake fluid leaks at all.  If the brake fluid develops a leak the proportioning valves are designed to limit fluid flow to those wheels so it doesn't or barely leaks out.  Rear brakes that have gone WAY out of adjustment can do this as well.  When an adjuster falls out the shoes collapse and can cause this too.
