Chevrolet Repair: chevy fuel pump, tank unit, electrical circuits

Hi! I've got a 1990 chevy 1/2 ton silverado 2wd with a 350 gas engine and tbi.  the intank fuel pump is out. all electrical circuits are ok...my question is.. is there an external inline pump that will work instead of having to drop the tank and replace the in tank unit?

Yes, and no....


 You could install an inline pump as long as it is able to supply 9-13psi fuel pressure under load.

Only problem:

 You still have to remove the one in the tank or the inline one will not draw fuel through the pump in the tank that is not running....


I know exactly where you are coming from.  You don't have either the equipment or time to pull the tank.  Unfortunately the tank has to come out so you might as well replace the defective pump.
