Chevrolet Repair: rear brakes, rear brake caliper, cylinder seals

Question
how do I compress the rear calipers?  Do I need a special tool?  On my other cars I have just used a clamp but that doesn't work on this system

Answer
Hey Doug,

Be sure to remove the bleeder before pushing back the pistons.  If you don't you will be working against hydraulic force and pushing sediment up into the ABS electronics and Master cylinder seals.
 Rule of thumb:

If a rear brake caliper has an emergency brake cable that goes to it a special tool is usually required to 'rotate' the piston back while compressing it. This is how the emergency brake works
If there is a emergency brake cable that goes into the back of the rotor where a small pair of shoes are they are regular calipers and can be just pushed back.

Hope this helps
