Chevrolet Repair: 96 tahoe, remote starter, ashtray

Question
my inerior lights dont work.. how do i fix them? i believe its got a short. when i put a new fuse in, it just blows right when it touches

Answer
Hey Franklin,

First things first.  Make sure there is no change in the ashtray.  The power point and cig lighter fuse is sometimes on the courtesy circuit and change can fall inside and cause them to short out.
An interior light short circuit can be a tough one to figure out as the wires go all about the vehicle including through the door panels.  Open all the doors and give the inner door looms a wiggle with your hand to try and loosen the wires up a bit.  With the doors all open then try and put another fuse in.  If it doesn't blow check the door looms.  The drivers door loom commonly get shorts in them and the courtesy lamp in the door receives power through that loom.  Try and think about when this all started.  Was an accessory installed like a remote starter or NAV system?

Put your dimmer on off too to eliminate a short in the dash.
