Chevrolet Repair: chevy oil cool lines, 4x4 trucks, pipe plugs

Question
My son has a 1990 chevy pick-up with a 4.3 v6 in it. The oil cooler lines are leaking instead of replaced the lines I would like to plug the cooler and take the lines and adapter off by the oil filter. Because my friend has a 1992 same motor and doesn't have one on. can I do this with out wrecking the motor.

Answer
This was intended for 4x4.  It allows the filter to lay sideways and avoid the front driveshaft.  The filter on the smaller trucks is actually remotely located behind the headlight on these 4x4 trucks.  These lines supply the filter.  On trucks that don't use the remote filter, the lines are connected to the radiator...for absolutely no reason whatsoever.  Actually extreme driving conditions means these lines may be neccessary.  Do you climb mountans pulling a 5th wheel?

Leave the adapter in place.  It makes life much much easier.  Go to the GOOD parts store in town.  Get two pipe plugs that fit the adapter where the lines screw in.  Disconnect the lines at the adapter and replace with pipe plugs.  I just did this on my Yukon.  Works great.  3/8" size plug.
