Chevrolet Repair: Fuel pump, starter fluid, fuel pump

Question
I have a 1991 silverado c1500 4.3 and I have a problem with it not wanting to crank. I have to spray starter fluid in the carburetor to get it to crank. I think there is a problem with it not wanting to spit out gas to get it cranked but when I get it cranked it runs fine. If someone could tell me what to look into I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Answer
I am unsure of the question.  Cranking is when the motor turns over but will not start.  The starter runs, but the motor will not start.  Is this what you have happening?  I will assume this is the case.

If it won't crank and then does with starter fluid, the starter fluid is making it easier because fuel won't be delivered until the motor is going around by way of the starter.  The actual starting of the motor prematurely (starting fluid) makes it easier on the starter to crank.  Once the cranking is happening, the fuel will deliver and keep it running.  Make sense???  Not sure if that is confusing.

Now the problem is probably a bad starter or bad connection.  Take the starter off and have it checked.
