Chevrolet Repair: 2005 Impala/overheating engine, coolant recovery, temperature gage

Question
Hello.  Just today started experiencing an odd overheating issue.  First, I live in Las Vegas and it's hot.  Anyway, started the car up after idling for awhile, temperature gage went into red zone, no steam or any other problem. As I drive temperature returns to normal, but when I idle, temperature starts to rise.  Book says to check coolant and when cold, it should be at the cold mark on the coolant recovery tank. Not much of a mechanic, so having difficult time telling if the line acoss the tank is the cold line.  However, it seems the line is rather low on the tank.  There is coolant in the tank, but it's rather low and is not at the level where the tank is connected to the radiator.  About a month ago had a coolant flush and think maybe the coolant cap wasn't all the way on.  Just looking for advice before I add coolant (I have the appropriate dex-cool 50/50 coolant).

Answer
Could be a bad thermostat.  If you flushed and filled, you may have lodged crap in the thermostat.

Could be air in the cooling system, if you have bleed off's, bleed the system.

Would love to suspect the radiator, but sure is new.  Could be the cooling fan having trouble.
