Chevrolet Repair: 1997 Camaro Primary Fan and A/C, fan switch, safety device

Question
I have a 1997 camaro that the primary cooling fan won't always kick on. At an idle it will overheat (sometimes). I let it set at an idle for 25 minutes and it never got above 210 but after I drove it for 5 minutes and then let it idle it started to overheat and the fan wouldn't kick on. It seems that when this happens the clutch on the A/C stops turning breifly. HELP, this is driving me crazy...

Answer
Hi Jeremy,

Could be a fan switch.  It is a temp sensor that turns the fan on when the motor is hot.

As far as the A/C stoping turning during overheat, that could be a motor safety device that protects the motor when it gets too hot.  If it senses overheat, the A/C turns off automatically.
