Chevrolet Repair: Car from storage, vacuum lines, plug holes

Question
I am about to start a 73 corvette (350) for the first time in 12 years.  I will pull the distributor and spin the oil pump to get oil circulated.  I can turn the engine by hand so nothing is locked.  Should I lubricate the cylinders (thru spark plug holes) before starting?  If so what would you suggest?

thanks,
Bob Blum

Answer
Hi Bob,

I would check the hoses, belts and vacuum lines for dryrot.  I would spray WD-40 into the cylinders.  If possible, drain the gas and fill with new stuff.  Use a fuel line cleaner.  Change the fuel filter.

May experience varnish or build up in the carb.  May need to rebuild that.  May find gaskets and seals start to leak after about 1000 miles.  Your tires may be rotted, check them.

There will be bugs.  You will work them out and this will be fun to drive.
