Chevrolet Repair: Timing, chevy 350, safe side

Question
When I disconnect the wire to time my 1989 chevy 350 it doesn't do any thing.

Answer
Honestly the wire doesn't really do anything. On vehicles that old, it's been my experience that the aren't worth a heck. Those were the early years of fuel injection where GM really didn't know what they were doing in the first place. But just to be on the safe side, go ahead and just time the truck the way they say and see what happens. Also what I do is after I set the timing, I unplug the battery for about five minutes just to make sure the computer doesn't have any codes.
