Chevrolet Repair: 1987 Chevy 5.7 350 TBI Silverado, chevy 5 7, vacuum leaks

Question
Chevy has been sitting for awhile it was stalling.Changed ignition module, rotar, spark plugs, oxegen sensor and new oil sending unit. Started truck and the idle stays high around 2200 rpms. Would not come down, replaced oxegen sensor still runs high. What else can I do to get the idle down? Took truck for a ride up to 45 miles an hour the ECM would not reset itself.
Thank you

Answer
First off the only thing you haven't replaced is more than likely the problem. On the TBI there should be a sensor called the Idle Air Control valve. If you go to your local auto parts store and get a new one it should have a diagram on how to set and install it. Another thing is, is that the only way to reset the ECM is unplug the battery for about 5 minutes. Now as long as you don't have any wiring problems or vacuum leaks, this should fix your problem. Easiest way to check for a vacuum leak is to get a can of carb cleaner and spray all the vacuum lines, around the gaskets on the intake and around all the components of the TBI. If there is a leak it will idle up even higher. But more than likely the cause of the problem is the IAC valve. If none of this works get back to me with a follow up and I will tell you of some other things to check for. Good luck.
