Chevrolet Repair: Caprice hard to start when damp, throttle position sensor, sparkplug

Question
Hi Van..I have a 1995 Chev Caprice 5.7L (old RCMP car - overall, a great car).  I'm having trouble starting it when it's rainy or damp outside - very sensitive to moisture.  I had the cap/rotor replaced a couple years back, the symptoms were identical.  I haven't put more than 10,000 miles on the car since then, so I'm thinking it's something else?  They replaced the plug wires as well back then.  Anything else you can think of that might cause this problem?  Could it be the cap/rotor again??  On this motor, the assembly is buried down low and quite hard to get at.  I was thinking of unplugging the wires one by one and putting dielectric grease in the sockets to seal out any moisture.  Thanks , Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,
Usually if the cap is cracked, and moisture is getting in it, the engine will backfire, because the spark will follow the wet crack to a wrong sparkplug.(not always)
I would suspect moisture getting in one of the wire harness connectors, like the throttle position sensor, or the connector at the distributor.
