Chevrolet Repair: fuel 1996 tahoe, starter fluid, fuel rail

Question
Car will start only if starter fluid sprayed in air intake.  Runs fine after that.  I just replaced fpr.  The fuel pump starts and stops normally. I have not checked fuel pressure.  Does the pump seem to be the problem.

Answer
I would have to say that the fuel pump may be bad. It may still be working but not up to standard. One thing to check is the fuel pressure. There should be a fuel rail that runs above all the injectors on the intake, on the rail itself you will find a Schroeder valve. It should have a black cap on it you can unscrew, then it looks like valve stem on a tire. You can check the pressure there while it's running and you should have at least 50 lbs of pressure. Any less and I would say your fuel pump is bad.
