Chevrolet Repair: 01 Malibu - Replacing intake manifold gaskets, manifold gaskets, haynes manual

Question
Hi there,

I have an '01 Malibu and I am trying to replace the gaskets.  We removed the front valve cover and the top manifold but cant get to some of the bolts on the back valve cover (by the alternator).  Do we have to remove all alternator wheels for this? Have a Haynes manual but it doesnt seem to imply this.  Any walkthru help would be much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jason,

I would remove anything in the way.  The removal of the alternator and related things will give you quite a bit of room to work.

Those manuals are for reference, not how-to directions.  There is usually real life issues that skew the book's directions.  So don't feel uneasy about going out of line with the book, a little.

Those back bolts are where you are saving the money.  It costs a lot to have this done.  If it were easy, everyone would do it.  There is always an easy access for repairs.  The trick is finding it.
