Chevrolet Repair: Spark Plugs, chevrolet camaro, vacuum leak

Question
Hello! An answer to your question:

1995 Chevrolet Camaro 3.4 V-6.  Just a quick question:  What causes spark plugs to be fouled in just 5,000 miles?  I got a tune up at 142,XXX miles with platinum plugs and now with just 147,7XX miles, the plugs are fouled and needs replacing. A mechanic removed 3 out of the 6
plugs and they were fouled.  The car is misfiring and backfiring upon acceleration.  I don't know if this helps, but this started immediately after refilling my tank.  This car drove fine until then.
Thanks

Answer
Hi Kevin,

Fouled plugs are from too much gas.  Or from incomplete burn.

Here are some things to consider.  Bad plugs (wrong ones, cheap ones), bad wires, vacuum leak, leaking fuel injectors, timing off, etc.  Did you get the correct gas?  Did you buy from an unusual place, possibly a cheaper place?  Did you buy the correct octane?  The higher the octane, the slower the gas burns.  If your motor is not happy with high octane, you could foul from incomplete burn.

All the plugs fouled leads me to suspect a cheap brand plug.  Crossed wires, or bad ones.  Wrong gas.  Something got disconnected during the tune up, like a vacuum line, or EGR controller.  Look for something like these ideas.

Good luck
