Chevrolet Repair: 1998 Chevy PU will not run, chevy malibu, tow truck driver

Question
Have a 1998 Silverodo Z71.  Filled up with gas and drove approximately 120 miles with no problem.  When ready to leave truck would not start.  When it did start it will only run for a few seconds and cut off.  I have installed a new fuel pump.  Pressu is 60.  Truck will fire, but still runs for only a few seconds then cuts off. Running our of options - any suggestions?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Douglas Sullivan,

If not a fuel filter, then I suspect a security issue.  Do you have a chip in your key?

If so, the security system may have malfunctioned.  THIS IS GOING TO SOUND STUPID!!!  You may need to put the truck in neutral, and move it a few feet.  If you can coast it into a curb at a speed fast enough to cause a jolt when it hits, with the key on, then let it sit 15 minutes.  It may start.

WHAT??????

I know, I know but this does work sometimes.  A 1999 chevy malibu recently would not start because of the security code.  Very common.  After repeated attempts, a tow truck driver arrived.  He put the key on, and pushed it forward and reverse, a few feet.  He said that should work.  It didn't.  He loaded the car with the key still on.  Drove it 3 miles to the dealer. Unloaded it and it started right up.  The dealer workers said that the jolts and movements over a few feet reset the security system.  After 15 minutes, the car will start.

Try it.  It sounds like your problem is security related.
