Chevrolet Repair: replacing crankshaft position sensor on chevy 2500hd 8.1 silverado, crankshaft position sensor, chevy 2500hd

Question
codes indicate the sensor is bad.  truck shuts off while driving, as well as when sitting still.  I have purchased a new sensor but cannot locate it on the engine.  How difficult is it to replace?

Answer
Hi Tony, this job is the worst!!! The sensor is located on the drivers side of the back of the block. To get to it is a problem, then just getting it out is another. You will end up breaking the top off and then grabbing onto the thick wiring that comes out the top. Spray the sensor with a good penetrating oil to help get it out.
