Chevrolet Repair: ABS brake controller., torx head screws, silverado 4x4

Question
I have a 99 Silverado 4x4 and one day when I stopped for gas I heard something stay on under the truck. I had seen the ABS light on the dashboard just before I shut the truck off. Rather than fool with it, I just removed the 40 amp fuse and as soon as I pulled it the contoller(under neath the driver's seat under the truck) quit running. Now I have 2 lights that light up and obviously no ABS brakes. Is that controller I mentioned hard to replace, GM is to cheap to replace it but the part isn't cheap. My first estimate from Chevy was $1300.00. Guess it's time to start buying Toyotas. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Bill, The part that is bad is the module and is held on with 4 torx head screws. If you live in a area that doesn't see snow and salt you should be able to just remove the screws and replace the module. It is the part that is on top. The price they gave you sounds a little high to me.

Hope this helps
