Chevrolet Repair: 1995 Caprice LT1 dies when put into drive, gas millage, o2 sensors

Question
Hello Scott,

I first off would like to thank you for any input. Like the title states I have a 1995 Caprice with the 5.7l LT1 engine. The car has about 150k miles.

Over the winter the car was in storage and recently taken out. The car will start fine and the engive will rev fine in park. When the car is taken out of park and into drive the car will creep forward like it normally would. As soon as you touch the accelerator, even slightly, the car will die.

I know the car's o2 sensors and cats are bad but i dont think they would cause this problem.

The check engine light is always on, never been scanned but likely to be on due to the o2 sensors.

Thanks!

Phil

Answer
b4 even starting a car that has been sitting all winter i would check everything, electrical, fluids, etc. everything, complete check and repair if needed.

and from what its sounds like the tcc is bad. runs fine but the second you put it in drive and touch pedal dies. torque converter solenoid.  google comes up with the basics, etc..  i would lean twoards that.

on some cars one can disconnect it, like the cavalier, affects gas millage but will get one home if needed.

check with your repair manual  and see what can be done for your model car.  again i could be wrong, it could be something else... but taht is hat i would check first, after  i check all other systems for  go-no go check.
