Chevrolet Repair: cavalier heating problem, blown head gasket, chevy cavalier

Question
I just purchased a 1996 chevy cavalier and the only bad thing is the cars temperature instantly goes to the highest temperature what is wrong here

Answer
I would first make sure it is full of coolant. Not just in the overflow tank, but inside the radiator.
Then, verify that the coolant is really getting hot, or is it a bad guage/sender/wire?
Are the hoses hot?

If it is really getting hot, you could have a water pump or thermostat problem, or a blown head gasket.
The head gasket should cause loss of coolant, engine miss, and pressure in the cooling system.
