Questionhey scott i have a 1991 chevrolet caprice v8 305 tbi it makes a weird grinding or crackling noise only when i step on the gas pedal but only for a few seconds and as i get higher in speed i cant hear it anymore i was curious if its the timeing chain ,i was told it was one of the serpintin pulleys but i changed them all and it still makes the noise ,and my other question is when doing s tune up what do i need besides oil change ?thanks alot
Answerdepends what kinda of grinding your hearing, is when shifts or just gas wise? could be something rubbing on something. and that ain't good.
as well as something could be lose since you dont hear it when you in high speed. double check all your pulleys to make sure they aren't rubbing on something or catching.
as for basic tune up, check oil, plugs, air filters, oil filters, bulbs fuses, etc... just a general check of the systems that get used. i check all the above and coolant sys, look for trouble signs, change out my plugs, check wires, check for lose bolts loose wires. etc.. jut give it the once over... sometimes it goes along way to prevent trouble in future.
