Chevrolet Repair: coil pack, fuel pumps, tough job

Question
My son owns a 1993 2.2L caalier. The car will crank but not start. After about 2 hours, it will start. I replaced spark plugs, ignition wires and fuel filter. He was on his way back to school and it quit on him. I believe it is the coil pack. How do I replace it? And is it a tough job?

Answer
Hi Tom, There are 2 coil packs on this engine and 1 ignition module which is the likely cause if you have no spark. To replace the module you need to remove the screws that retain the coil packs, now you can just remove the module because the screws that hold the coil packs also hold the module onto the mounting bracket.

Be sure that the no start problem is no spark before you do any work. I have seen a lot fuel pumps go bad compared to the module. You can spray carb cleaner into the throttle body and see if it starts. This will tell you if you have a bad pump.

Hope this helps
