Chevrolet Repair: 93 Lumina Van blower fan, resistor pack, lumina van

Question
A couple of weeks ago, my blower fan stopped working for both heat and ac.  The rear fan works but is a seperate switch.  It would sometimes come on after a bump or acceleration.  Now it is totally out.  Makes for a very cold ride to school, no matter how long I warm the vehicle up.  It is very old and will be replaced next year.  But would sure like a fan until then.

Answer
Hi Kari,

Do any of the fan speeds work?

There is a relay for this motor.  It may have gone.  You can try plugging one in place of this (from somewhere else), that matches it.  If the motor is bad, it may kill that relay too.  Relays can vary in price, up to $30.

Try checking the resistor pack for the blower, it's the thing that lowers the voltage to allow for 4 speeds. It is usually located close to the fan itself, usually sticks inside the fan housing and will have 4 or 5 wires running into it. While your at it pull the fan and see if a twig or something might be jamming it.

If not the relay, or the resistor pack, then the motor is probably getting ready to go, or is gone.  Not a tough job.  Try junk yard since you are planning to replace the car.

Hope this helps.
