Chevrolet Repair: 2000 Silverado LS Z71, knock sensor, octane fuel

Question
I just got this truck and it has 106K on it. I noticed when it is cold it knocks. Once it warms it stops and runs fine. Should I switch to a higher octane fuel, and put in copper plugs with smaller gap? A friend said the knock sensor may need changed.

Answer
check your timing. if the knock sensor is bad, it wont retard the timing on a cold start. higher octane is no fix, just a bandage. it burns cooler than lower octane. and NEVER, NEVER, adjust the gap on your plugs. stick to the manufacturer gap. now, if its a tap, and not a knock, its the lifters taking time to pump up. the vehicle has 106k on it, its got use.
