Chevrolet Repair: air conditioner, chevy venture van, pressure guage

Question
I have a 2002 Chevy Venture Van. The air conditioner is blowing room temperature/warm air. Can you tell me how to find the problem and hopefully repair it?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Tracy,

The problem is most likely low R-134.  You need to verify that, but if so you can recharge it easily.

The first thing to do is turn the A/C on and see if the compressor is cycling on.  If you don't know where that is, have someone assist you to find it.  It is a pully on the front of the motor.

If the compressor is not working, you need to go to the local auto parts store and buy a couple of things.  You might be able to get everything in a kit.  You need R-134 recharge canister, preferrably with stop leak and lubricant in it.  You need a recharge hose, and a pressure guage.

While the A/C is on, hook up the pressure guage and see if you are low.  If so, hook up the recharge kit according to the directions and refill the system.

Hope this helps.
