Chevrolet Repair: 1989 Suburban 4wd electrical problem, air control valve, electrical problem

Question
Hi-My 89 suburban blows the gauge/idle fuse as soon as the key is turned on.I thought it was the alternator and had it rebuilt.Found out then the gauges were not working.Went to get a fuse, the truck would not restart.Had the battery charged and load tested.Shows good. The charging system check said alt not charging.Put in a fuse, turned the key on,in the dark to see if i could see a flash(didn't)heard a pop under the hood. What can cause this? Thanks,Brian

Answer
I would try unplugging the idle air control valve on the throttle body. It may have a shorted coil.
Check the wire to it also, to see if it has rubbed and is shorting.
Your owners manual should have a page about the fuses, that tells what fuse protects which circuit. But then there is another chart that tells everything that is powered by each fuse.
You might not have some of the items, but if you do, that is the fuse that powers it.
