Chevrolet Repair: Re: alternator issue, high output, s10

Question
i own a 2000 s10 and was curious about my alternator. i installed one about 2-3 months ago and i notice after awhile of driving, the meter on the voltage drops down below 14v. is it normal or should i check something. my truck is bagged and have a compressor on it that draws about 18 to 25 amps but have not used it for the past month. any feed back would be helpful
                                  thank you.

Answer
Hello Sergio, The best way to check this type of problem is with a volt gauge on the battery. Measure the voltage with a meter at the battery and compare that reading to the reading from the dash gauge. If it is below 14 volts then there is a problem with the alternator. You can look at this site for a high output alternator....http://www.dbelectrical.com/alternators/onewire.shtml.

Hope this helps
