Chevrolet Repair: 91 chevy ign. switch, steering column, drivers seat

Question
I limited problem down to ignition switch. found switch, its on top of steering column, how can i get to it?

Answer
Hi Nathan,

Not knowing the symptoms, I cannot tell you if you are correct in determining the Ign. Switch as the problem.

If you want to get to the switch, you must drop the steering comumn down.

Take off any dash covers for interior design, around the base of the steering column.  Then you should have exposed at least two large bolts, that are holding the bracket up, that supports the steering column.  Once those bolts are removed, the steering column will drop down to the drivers seat.  This gives you enough room to replace the switch.  Rremember to mount it correctly (ie. the rod is in the hole, the slide part of the switch can go through it's entire travel, etc).

Hope this helps.
