Chevrolet Repair: 1997 Balzer fuel pump, oil pressure switch, fuel pump relay

Question
My blazer is hard to start first thing in the morning, but runs and starts great the rest of the day.  My dealer says that I am loosing fuel pressure over night which they found with a gauge.

The want to replace the fuel pump at a cost of $980, because the pump is located in the fuel tank.  Would it be possible to install an external fuel pump on the frame near the tank, a probably much less cost.

The Blazer is a great shape with 53,000 mile.

Answer
They are just guessing, and feeding you a line.
When you turn the key on, before starting it, see if you can hear the pump running in the tank.
It should run for two seconds and then shut off, until it gets a signal that it is cranking.

If it runs fine later, there is nothing wrong with the pump, so after the $980. and it does the same thing, I would be very mad...but I think that is what would happen. Then they would guess at something else...at your expense.

No, an external pump won't work to the best of my knowledge. But like I said, I don't think you need a pump.

I think the fuel pump relay may be your problem. There is an oil pressure switch that also supplies power to the fuel pump after the oil pressure builds up, so yours may just be running on the oil pressure switch.

Here is another place to ask your question, and you will get plenty of good answers.
