Chevrolet Repair: 1989 Cavalier Z24 stalls., coolant temperature sensor, 1989 cavalier z24

Question
Hi Van,

I've had my Z24 for about 6 years now (it's got 166000+ miles on it.), and I've replaced a lot of parts on it. Catalytic, O2 sensor(just passed the CA emissions test with flying colors!), plugs & wires, radiator and water pump, starter, (engine was remanufactured in early '05) The last thing it needed replaced was the ignition coil packs about a month ago.  It's running pretty ok right now, but it seems that it usually runs better and idles smoother during the morning 9 mile commute to work than it does going home.  It'll usually stall as I'm coming out of the parking garage, or the first red light, or when I start it back up after stopping at a store or something.  I was told that warming up the car is still a good thing, so I've always done so until I see the first light come on in the digital dash.  Is there anything else I can do besides maybe replacing the computer to fix the stalling problem and steady the idle?  A big thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
Hi Paul,
I would probably test or replace the coolant temperature sensor.

Clean the idle air control valve and egr valves also.

The MAF sensor can also be a cause for problems. The following is a Ford link, but I just haven't found a GM link that explains it so well, and they work the same.
