my 1995 monte carlo gear shifter will not come out of park

Fanis...let's fix this one...There are a couple of possible problems...The selector handle is locked out because the solenoid is not activating the release.This works off the brake pedal switch and a fuse..check the fuses.Next is a tough one...There is a linkage inside the transmission that is spring loaded.If the little pin breaks it will not allow you to move the mechanical mechanism known as the parking''pawl'' out of position.This requires you to get to the internal linkage rod,,,sorry major job there!Put the parking brake on and block the wheels...remove the linkage on the transmission and see if the linkage can be moved by hand...it will tell you in what direction to go,,good luck!
