1991 S-10 4.3 w/250,000 km - t/b inj.- auto tran.
Starts well and runs strong, but @1000 rpm begins a pronounced vibration,in or out of gear=no difference .At about 2000 or so the intensity diminishes due to the increased frequency, but it is still there.
I have tried:
Plugs,Wires,Dist cap,Rotor and intensive OTC fuel injector additives. Professional scope check says Ignition is A-1 (I could have predicted that, but..."leave no stone unturned" )
Compression is 150 all around, vacuum is steady and strong.Valve seals leak just enough to create a smoke puff out the pipes at cold start-up.
Basically, I think the core engine is sound, but this crank-speed vibration drives me NUTS.
Are these units prone to torque converter imbalance? Maybe harmonic balancer?
Note: It has a tremendous appetite for fuel, and has quite a Carbon buildup in both exhaust tips. If it has run rich for a long time (mostly hiway) could it build up carbon on the pistons and un balance the engine?

Check engine light on?

Answer
Attach a computer to the vehicle and read what the stored codes are. Write them down!! You can have a parts house check this most of the time for free. My guess is the vehicle is loading up with gas at higher speeds causing the plugs to foul. There are so many things that it could be this is why you need to have a computer hooked up so that I can see what is going on.
Thanks for your question.
