Chevrolet Repair: 1988 Chevy 305 with TBI. Cranks too long..., 1987 pontiac fiero, pontiac fiero

Question
This is probably a strange set up...but here goes.
I have a 1987 Pontiac Fiero and I swapped out the V6 motor and put in a 1989 Cadillac 4.5.  I did this weekends over a 2 year period and the motor runs fairly smooth. The problem I have is that the starter cranks fine but takes about 5 seconds to finally kick the engine over. The 1988 305 throttle body is signaled by a 305 ECM with several mics modifications, sensors, wiring, etc.
I bought the throttle body used from a salvage yard and have not FIDDLED WITH ANY ADJUSTMENTS. What should I do to let more air into the throttle body so it fires quickly?  I tried a small amount of gas directly into the throttle body and she fires immediately !  I am not really good with TBI adjustments and don't know where to start, but when the car is off I see the "butterflys" are closed up. I think it's starving for air, cause it smells rich when idling. How do I properly set up this used, Chevy 305 throttle body (so it starts right up)?
Any advice would be appreciated,
Jim
