Chevrolet Repair: Radiator system, transmission oil cooler, radiator tank

Question
I have a 2002 Chevy Impala (V6 engine, 3400 code E) I was wondering if you could tell me how to flush the radiator system including engine block. My engine light came on and when I took the radiator cap off, there was all this like Grey mud all around the top. Could you also tell me where the drain plug or screw is for the radiator and where the thermostat is? Maybe this is not the reason the engine light is on, but it still has to be done. The temperature gage is normal. Thanx

Answer
Hello Joe,
2002? Is it still under warranty?

Check the transmission fluid. There is a transmission oil cooler in the radiator tank, and if it is leaking, it will form a sludgy gunk like that. Check the level of fluid in the tranny, and also check to see if there is any antifreeze in it.
