Chevrolet Repair: S-10 Blazer gas tank humming, low tank, tank area

Question
I have a '95 S-10 Blazer, 170K miles. For the past couple of years there has been a humming noise coming from the gas tank area, but only when the vehicle gets really warmed up and the gas tank is low. After a long commute there is also a strong fuel smell outside the vehicle as well. I have had the fuel pump checked and they say there is no pressure problem with the pump. They recommend just keeping the tank full! The noise is very annoying, especially at stop signs on a low tank of gas. Any ideas on repair and cost?

Answer
The tank needs to be removed from the truck to get to the fuel pump, or the bed needs removed. It is possible the bottom of the tank is bent up, allowing the pump to touch against it, which doesn't hurt anything, but allows the pump noise to be louder.
