Chevrolet Repair: 1981 Chevrolet half ton pickup ignition, chevrolet pickup, spring release

Question
My friend has a 1981 chevrolet pickup. The ignition switch has gone out. The switch is located on the steering column. I have pulled the steering wheel, removed all the parts  to get to where I pulled the blinker wiring assembly out far enough to get to where the ignition is. All the pictures I have seen shows either a screw or some sort of spring release to remove the old ignition switch. There is neither one there. I am at a loss. I dont know if there is a tool I need or if I am simply missing something. Any help will be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Chuck,
In all honesty, that is not the ignition switch. It is just the lock tumbler.
It operates a little rack, that in turn pushes a rod on the side of the steering column, which operates the actual ignition switch, which is located down on top of the steering column, above the brake pedal.
If you actually need to remove that tumbler, some of them have a hole for a straightened paper clip, right beside where the key is inserted. The paper clip can only be inserted when the key is turned to accessories, I believe.
That presses a release inside the tumbler.

Might want to go to the public library, refference section, where they will have an older manual that will cover that.

But if the problem is electrical, you are in the wrong area.
