Chevrolet Repair: engine will not start, four banger, power pulses

Question
I have an '89 chevy s-10 truck with a 2.5L four banger. It has a throttle body/ fuel injection system. The starter cranks with power, but engine does not run.  I pour gas into the throttle body, engine starts and runs with no problem. Checked the fuel pump, no problems found. Any ideas what could be the problem. No problem with the fuel filters.

Answer
Hi Fred,
Check the fuel pressure. I know you checked the pump, but it can run fine, and blow gas all over when the line is off, but if it doesn't maintain 13 to 14 PSI, it won't run.
If the pressure is there, see if there is power to the injectors first, and if there is, see if the power pulses while cranking or running on that prime.
If not, the ecm, or the module that sends the crank signal is where to look.
But make sure that fuel pressure is there. The injectors don't pump in fuel. They are just solenoid valves, and depend on the fuel pump pressure to spray the fuel in while they are open.
