Chevrolet Repair: Battery drain, heavy duty battery, delco battery

Question
How many milliamps typically can a battery maintain when the vehicle is parked for a period of 12 to 14 hours. I was told an electrical device in my truck was killing my battery. It is designed to operate in a vehicle. It worked fine in my previous vehicle. I have an 05 Silverado with a 6 month old dealer installed Delco battery. I was told the truck was drawing 78 ma
with purifier in the power socket and 8 ma when unplugged. They said this was killing my battery and now I have a dead cell. Can 78 millismps destroy a battery? I am very skeptical but don't know the facts. They made me pay for a new battery and labor $141. I think I was ripped off. Thanks for your reply.

Answer
Hello again Austin,
I Google searched for parasitic drain, and this is one of the pages I found.

In the top section of that page, there is a little chart of some normal drains....your truck could have some, or all of them, and be normal. Even more if there are alarm systems, two way radios like I have, radar sets in law enforcement vehicles, audio/video recorders, auxiliary handheld radio chargers, cell phone, flashlight chargers...the list goes on, and I have vehicles with every bit of that stuff and more, and don't have dead-cell batteries.

I also don't have extra batteries in the vehicles...just the heavy duty battery orriginally equiped.

So go back to them, and get that battery warranty you deserve.
