Chevrolet Repair: 1999 K1500 Wiring problems, abs brakes, fan blower

Question
I have a strange situation. Sometimes when I attempt to turn on my fan blower motor, strange things happen. No exageration here, my ABS and sometimes brake light comes on, the fan will not blow at all, no A/C either. The transmission comes out of or will not go into overdrive. Also if the ABS light is on when I attempt to stop with any force the ABS brakes activate briefly. It does not always do this. Most of the time everything works perfect, but then on occasion it acts like this. If it does begin to act up, I can simply switch off the fan blower and everything returns to normal after a few seconds. Whats up with that? I'm guessing a wire short, but where do I start? Thanks.

Answer
Hello Brandy,
Generally speaking, shorts blow fuses.
I doubt you have a short.
I would suspect you have a bad ground.
First place to look for a ground problem is under the hood, at the rear of the passengers side of the engine.
There should be a ground wire from the intake manifold bolt, to the firewall.
Make sure it is connected. I have seen them burn in two down the wire a little ways, so check there also.
If that one is there, I would look under the dash, above the parking brake pedal. There should be a little block with a bunch of ground wires connected to it. Make sure they are all tight, and try to find the one that connects them all to the body, and make sure it is clean and tight.
Look for and check every ground wire under there.
Find the blower relay, and check all the wires on it.
And check the ground of the blower motor itself.
If you are up to it, you may even need to remove the instrument cluster to check connections there.

But I'm going to bet you have a loose ground wire somewhere. That is what usually causes that wierd kind of stuff.
