Chevrolet Repair: Major Tune Up - 1996 S10 Blazer 150k+, s10 blazer, spark plug wire set

Question
Mark,
I have kind of a dumb question here but I want to go and buy all the parts needed to be changed out for a major tune-up on a 1996 S10 Blazer with over 150k miles on it. I bought it in Las Vegas and 2 years ago and never really put any work into it. I have had a oil change a few months ago and I drive a lot! This is what I have had done on it since I bought it, (1) replacement starter, (1) replacement radiator, (1) replacement fuel pump (smells of gas all the time), and (1) ignition replacement. I want to registar it but there is no way it will pass because the "Service Enginge" light is always on. When I start it up in the morning it just wants to crank and I sometimes I hear a pop or small explosion under the hood sounds like rear lefts side of hood and i have to pump the gas alot. Also my catalitc converter is going out and my muffler sounds like its getting a whole in it as well. I know it sounds like a tall order to ask of you but I don't want to go to an mechanic with out knowing what i'm in for. I figured that I would do a oil change, MAJOR tune up, replace the muffler/Catalitc converter, and maybe replace my fuel pump. I just need to know what replcement parts are needed for the Major Tune-up.... Please guide me if you can :(

Answer
Hi Emery, The fuel pump is a good place to start with the hard staring and fuel smell. It could be leaking out the top of the tank. This will also make the service engine light come on too. As for the tune up parts....SPARK PLUGS,DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR, SPARK PLUG WIRE SET, AND A PCV VALVE. This should do it.

Hope this helps
