Chevrolet Repair: 2000 S-10 erratic gas gauge, gas gauge, level sensor

Question
Currently (an improvement) the gas gauge on my 2000 S-10 reads full when it first started then slowly drops to what is a more reasonable reading (I assume). It has however floated up and down from empty to full without any reason. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi John, the level sensor (float inside the tank) goes bad often on these trucks. You need to replace it to repair your problem. To do this you need to drop the tank and remove the sending unit. Then install the new level sensor to the sending unit.
