Chevrolet Repair: 85 Buick LeSabre/waterpump squeal, belt alignment, fan clutch

Question
Hiya Mark-
I'm an all experts volunteer too, for insurance law.  My question is about an 85 Buick LeSabre that squeals like a pig.  The waterpump has been changed, and it still does it.  Question, is there any type of fan clutch that can go bad and cause this problem?  We did have a power steering leak on this, and that's been reconnected.  The squealing did change when the tires were rotated, but in looking to where the sound was located, I'm not convinced it's the power steering pump, as my brother thinks it is.  I have a hunch there might be a fan clutch on this that could also cause the problem?  This is the v-8 version of is model, set up with a towing package, and it was used for towing a boat.  My thought is that the extra strain under load could have caused that to fail, and that is why replacing the water pump didn't change it.  I also saw a note about checking to make sure that the belt sizes were 7/16's.  Thanks for your help. :) Denise

Answer
Hi Denise, Lets make sure we know where the noise is coming from. If you can...remove one fan belt at a time (It has more then 1 belt I hope) to locate which componant might be the problem. Once you locate the belt you can look at the belt itself, could just be the belt and replacing could solve your noise. Or it could be the belt alignment to the pulleys. I think I would replace the belt that was making the noise and see how it sounds. Do this and get back to me ok!!

Let me know...

Have a Great Day    Mark
