Chevrolet Repair: Starter Motor/Ignition, ac delco, motor ignition

Question
Van,
My battery is completely full of juice, and the battery terminals are clean and tight.  However, when I begin to start the engine (put the key in the start position) the vehicle will not do anything.  I mean at this point the pickup becomes dead.  I release the key back to the run position and all lights come one, the door bell rings, and the fuel pump "primes" itself again.  Could this be a starter motor problem?  I have checked all fuses and they are still good.  Please advise.

Thanks, Darren.

P.S.  I have been having problems with the starting of my pickup for little over a year now and was wondering if it had anything to do with my new problem.  I had to replace a fuel pump and as soon as I did that the problem started.  When I would start the vehicle it would take me several attempts to get the engine to "fire off".  The first few times you attempted to start the engine it would just crank for a while and never "turn over".  Different mechanics told my that it was a factory defect in the AC Delco fuel pump and that it needed to completely "prime" itself in order to start.  This has been an on going problem of mine for over a year and now I am wondering if the starter has been slowly going out on me.  Please advise.  Thanks.  Oh, and the pickup has brand new spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel pump (1.5-yrs old) and fuel filter.

Answer
Hello Darren,
Those lights going off sound like either a bad connection, or a starter worn out.
You didn't say what year it is, or how many miles, and if it is several years old, the starter coul shure be dragging. A battery load tester could tell, if it is drawing more than a couple hundred amps.
