Howdy!

I just got a 1991 Chevy Caprice (100k miles) for $1,800.00. I'm trying to get it running right again (previous owners neglected it a bit). I'm noticing some steering issues..it could just be my imagination, but if I'm driving on any kind of angled turn (50 mph highway, or 15 mph garage), the car wants to go downhill.

The best way to explain it is it's like driving a car with a rubber steering wheel (maybe not THAT dramatic). I've driven a 1999 Firebird and Camaro and though my car probably wouldn't compare, I think my steering should be tighter, maybe the wheel should fight me a tad to get back center?

Hi Stratis,
A quick trip to a front end alignment shop should tell all you want to know.
We have shops in my area called Hibdon Tire Company, that will check it for free, and even tell you what it needs.
Of course, if you want, they will replace the needed parts and finish the alignment, but if you are good with working on that stuff, they will give you a list, and you can replace them yourself, and later take it back for the alignment.

Ball joints, tie rod ends, loose steering gear, or steering gear adjustment are some of the possible causes.
