Chevrolet Repair: Chevrolet g20 van sitting in storage 2 years..., chevrolet g20, fuel filter

Question
I have a 1992 Chevrolet G20 Van. It has been in storage for two years.  I never started the van while it was in storage.

I took van out of storage to sell it. I replaced the battery and changed the oil. Van started and ran for two weeks.

Problem: While I was driving the van at about 45mph, the acceleration started to slow down. It just slowly died out. It did not cease it just slowly died out.

I pulled over and tried to start it. It started but turned off instantly. Had foot down on gas, but it would not stay running.

I tried to start it for over and hour. Battery drained to 300.

I was told it might be the fuel filter. Should I change the filter?

Answer
Hi Sam,
I would expect that the fuel filter may well be the problem.
Lots of condensation can happen in the tank in two years, and depending on how full of fuel the tank was, there could be a little or a lot of fuel varnish formed, and that is probably what plugged the filter, if the filter is plugged.
I would ask if you can hear the pump in the tank running.
But filter is a real good guess.
