Chevrolet Repair: 1995 S-10 Reverse Lights Keep Blowing Fuse, trailer lights, test light

Question
I have a 1995 Chevy S-10 and the Turn signal/reverse lights fuse keeps blowing whenever I put the truck in reverse. I tried looking at all of the lamps and cleaned them but it still keeps happening. I even took out the reverse bulbs. Thus far I've been reduced to finding parking spots I don't have to back out of or opening the door and taking out the fuse before I back up and then putting it back in when I'm done. Please Help.

Answer
Hi Peter,
Back near where the rear bumper bolts to the frame, you should find some connectors.
The one coming along the frame from the front is the one I would find, and unplug it. Then stick a fuse in and see if it still blows the fuse.
If it does, your short is in the harness or switch up front.
If it doesn't blow a fuse now, there is a short in one of the lights, or where a wire passes through a hole.
If you have a trailer connector, it could be there.
The wires are:
Brown for marker/trailer lights.
Yellow for left turn.
Dark green for right turn.
Black is ground.
And light green for reverse.

I would check with a test light for power at that connector.
