Chevrolet Repair: 1995 monte Carlo Misfiring, rev limiter, timing belt

Question
Recently purchased a 1995 monte carlo with the 3.1 v6. I got it home and decided to check it out a little. With the car in the drive way I reved it up to see if anything was wrong.....yup there is. It only revs to 4000rpms and then cuts out. Almost sounds as though the rev limiter is hittng. But on start up it turns slow then catches as if it were out of time alittle. Oh yeah forgot to mention it has just over 180,000 miles on her. No check engine lights, but then I haven't driven it enough to run a cycle if the battery had been disconnected previously.

Thanks for any input
John

Answer
Not to be disrespectful, But WHY would you buy a car with that many miles opn it /. Your going to be fixing and replacing parts constantly trying to keep this vehicle running.

You could have an exhaust restriction.

a timing belt that is worn out.

numerous sensor and computer problems.

There are numerous tests that need to be done via special equipment that only a dealer would have.
