Chevrolet Repair: Rear brakes intermittent drag, rear brakes, brake cables

Question
Hello, I have had an ongoing problem with my 1988 C3500 2 wheel drive, 5.7 concerning the rear brakes.Sometimes the rear brakes tend to drag, not quite lock-up.You put it in drive and you can barely go forward. It has the rear anti-lock system, and sometimes the brake light will come on.Have replaced the computer, but obviously I overlooking something.I have a new combination valve but before I replace that was wondering if I'm missing something. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks

Answer
In a lot of older vehicles the 3 rubber brake hoses, One at each front whell and one near the rear axle that carry brake fluid to the wheel cylinders tend to collapse internally over the years and literally trap the brake fluid thus not allowing it to flow back into the master cylinder thus keeping the brakes partially applied. I would start by replacing these brake hoses even thoough they look OK on the outside, You cannot tell what the inside looks like.

Also th emergency brake cables tend to rust thus keeping the rear brakes applied. Make sure your emergency brake is working properly.
