Chevrolet Repair: exhaust turning cherry, chevy 4x4, new cadillac

Question
hello just bought a 1986 chevy 4x4 350 it has been sitting for 2 years. when it is running it is missing and the exhaust turns cherry the whole exhaust. it has a new cadillac converter on it but i un hooked the exhaust anyways and still ran like crap. could it be bad carb? dumping fuel in exhaust or way out of time? im stumped the truck starts right up and runs pretty good at idle. please help thanks stumped in p.a.

Answer
Hi Mark,
I immagine the gas evaporated in the carb bowl, and gunked it up.
Some Berrymans B12, or other carb cleaner could do a good job if you spray a bunch into the carb, being sure to get some into the bowl also.
If the float needle got stuck and isn't shutting off the gas, the pump could be just flooding the devil out of it.
Remove the fuel line and filter from the carb, and spray a bunch in there also.
You may need to do some disassembling of the carb, or a complete overhaul of it. But that is where I would expect the problem to be.
