Chevrolet Repair: 99 Blazer, blown head gasket, loose hose

Question
Hello Van,
I have a 99' Cheverolet Blazer with a few problems. Sometimes when I try to take off, the engine gets real loud but the Blazer will barely go anywhere. That's been going on for awhile, but recently the motor started shaking really bad and it shakes the whole truck from side-to-side. On top of that, it's emmitting a very foul smell. I was told by a mechanic I need new motor mounts to stop the shaking. Could it be the EGR valve causing the smell and engine problems or should I be looking for a loose hose? I don't know what to do, it's so hard to find a good mechanic. Any input from you would be hugely appreciated.

Thank You,
Jonathan

Answer
Hi Jonathan,
Motor mounts might stop the shaking, but there is some other problem causing it.
If that smell is kinda bitter, or sour, I would suspect you might have a blown head gasket, and that is antifreeze steam you smell. Would also account for the shaky shudder.

Do you need to add coolant?
